New user here. Some time ago, there was a game specific launcher released to Tiberian Sun, which made the game run on modern computers and also had the option of running the game in DxWnd mode via TSLauncher's Settings menu. While running the game in DxWnd mode, it was possible to alt+tab as much as I liked without the screen turning black once the window got restored. That gave me hope when it came to the very same issue that I have with Red Alert 2. Not long after, I googled dxwnd just to find out more about this function, having high hopes of curing the black screen bug in Red Alert 2 + Yuri's Revenge.Holy hamburger Batman; this program have a lot of options. I don't know where to start; the DxWnd mode in TSLauncher only had maybe three options, this full applications has over 9000 combinations in terms of different functions.

Unofficial Red Alert 2 Patch 1.007 Red Alert 2 - Yuri's Revenge - Čestina Red Alert 2 - Lan Patch Fix Windows 7, 8, 10 That is all How to run Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge on Window. If you have any problem, post me on comments. Need help with red alert 2 windowed. Set the compatibility mode to windows XP SP2, 16bit color option, and run as administrator (if you don't do the last one you. Unhook all the compatibility mode options on the.exe files in the RA2 folder if you haven't done that already (Windows 98 mode, 16 bit colors, run as administrator and so on). Also, if you have any ddraw fixes in the folder such as the aqrit one, delete them from the RA2 folder as well (aqrit.cfg & ddraw.dll). RA2 in Windowed Mode? - posted in Support: Im trying to play RA2 in windowed mode. Adding -win to the target in the shortcut just opens RA2s origin page, so I am not sure what to do about this. Setting compatibility of game and gamemd executables to 16bit does allow the game to run in a window, however it is a super tiny window and the colours are seriously messed up, also moving the window away from the top left of my monitor does not cause the messed up colour mess contents of the window to come with it, it is stuck to the top left of my monitor.
I have tried some of them, but instead of me using maybe a whole week of typing in each and one of those combination to cure the alt+tab sicness of Red Alert 2, does any of you know the right combination I need to click on in the DxWnd application to fix this issue with Red Alert 2? I have managed to go one step in the right direction now: I edited ra2.lcf and ra2md.lcf in a text editor and wrote -win after the game.exe / gamemd.exe lines in the lcf files, so that RA2 and RA2MD both starts in windowed-mode instead of fullscreen mode. The game now starts in windowed mode, but the game crashes as soon as I move my cursor at the bottom of the screen at 1920x1080. I haven't found an option for borderless gaming in DxWnd as of yet, even though that function somehow was baked in Tiberian Sun's TSLauncher under dxwnd in it's Settings menu.I hope a solution is in the corner; I will post a solution here if I somehow can find it (I still have my doubts though).
I've come one step closer; I installed an app called Borderless Gaming, and then pressed F3 as soon as I started RA2MD (Yuri's Revenge). Now this game actually works in windowed mode, and without the crash I got earlier when I moved the mouse curson to the bottom of the screen ingame.Somehow the original RA2 does not work just as good with Borderless Gaming. The borders are long gone and all, but the game still crashes when I point the mouse cursor at the bottom of the screen here, althougt this does not happen with Yuri's Revenge while starting it via RA2MD.There is one minor (or can I say major) bug in Yuri's Revenge and RA2 though, and that is that the menu icons disappears in both games while removing the borders. Maybe now the app DxWnd can come to good use and somehow restore the missing elements from the menus in RA2 and Yuri's Revenge? I'm using the current build aka v2.03.97fx3, if that's relevant. I only use RA2.exe and RA2MD.exe to launch the game with- and without the expansion.I find that RA2.exe and RA2MD.exe behaves quite differently; RA2.exe shows a full window at 1080p (with window borders) at the startup, with the tiny menu at the center and black borders occupying most of the screen. In the startup loading image the EA games copyright text is displayed in the bottom right of the screen in the black borders area (even though the statue of liberty image is small and centred in the middle).RA2MD.exe however shows a tiny Windows at maybe 640x480 at the startup (with window borders), and it switches to 1080p once a game is started. Both vanilla RA2 and Yuri's Revenge displays a full screen window once a game is started (skirmish/ multiplayer and so on); too bad borderless window does not work by enabling Modular Style in DxWin.
If it did so, I could have Borderless Gaming uninstalled and only used the DxWnd software.Red Alert 2 is at version 1.006, while Yuri's Revenge is at version 1.001. RA2.exe crashes with and without the Borderless Gaming app once the mouse cursor is moved to the bottom of the screen in-game, while RA2MD.exe only crashes in the same scenario if I don't use the Borderless Gaming app.The EA logo at the startup also gets distorted while running RA2 and RA2MD in windowed mode. The text from the menus (together with some background highlighting and other effects) disappear when I intercept the SetWindowLong api trying to replace the window callback procedure.
This happens when the main window is detected to be in a particular condition with a check that was changed between the two DxWnd releases, then the problem. Here we are again.I fixed a few things about RA2, but the game problems have a name: dialogs! The game uses dialogs to build the menu choices, and so far I haven't found a way to intercept and control dialog windows: so, once they are born with no control, the best thing you can do is to leave them alone and forget to scale or manipulate them. This release recovers the previous behaviour (before v2.03.93) of letting them go, and game menus works ok apart from being unscaled and then placed in the wrong places.
Red Alert 2 Windowed Mode Games
But so far any attempt to interfere with them led to an invisible output, still unscaled, so no benefit at all.But there are other problems to investigate: one big annoyance is the game jumping to the upper left corner and further outside the screen as soon as you simply date to touch the window border, and this despite the 'Floating' coordinate prescription. I made the proxy.dll that is used in TSlauncher, you can use it on ra2 too. My objective was clear, remove as many options as possible and make DxWnd easy to use!Download: Old stable version:Newer not so well tested version:Just download and extract to your game folder, make sure DxWnd is not running cause double hooking would lead to a failure for sure.
There is no config program for ra2, you'll have to open the.ini file in notepad to configure it. No worries, I tried to keep it simpleBut yes, there are still menu problems.
I think single player is working though, only skirmish/Online/LAN is freezing in window mode. (I think it was freezing when you tried to change the map in skirmish mode). Just to provide some additional information.
Red Alert 2 only works by default cause microsoft is shipping the needed settings with windows (via the compatibility database)8And16BitTimedPriSync. Thank's Google, its memory is far better than mine: here it isWe reached this conclusion: swallowing WMMOVING eliminates the problem, but the window stands still. Passing WMMOVING to DefWindowProc is perfect for RA2 but creates troubles for other games. Adding a further flag? It's a possibility, but I should see if I can fix it otherwise. This is pretty much what I meant more than 8 months ago, please remind me about this problem if I don't give birth to a patch within the canonical 9 months. At last, Yuri's Revenge is working flawlessly via RA2MD via dxwnd. Now the menu's are working, but I still have to use the Borderless Gaming app to get rid of the borders around the games-window, and make it appears as it's running fullscreen. What I had to do:.
Edit ra2md.lcf with Notepad, take this line 'RUN =. Game.exe' and replace with this 'RUN =. Game.exe -win' for making the game run in windowed mode. Enter properties on the ra2md.exe, and select 16 bit color under compatibility mode.

Red Alert 2 Windowed Models
Download the dxwnd version provided above this post, start dxwnd and drag the ra2md.exe file into the dxwnd window. Once that is done, close dxwnd and save the changes (a dialogue pops up). Before starting the game via ra2md.exe, download the Borderless Gaming app to remove the windowed borders in this game (if you don't do that, the game crashes to desktop once the mouse cursor is moved to the bottom of the screen once a game is started). Start the Borderless Gaming app, and then start ra2md.exe. Once ra2md.exe is up and running, switch over to the Borderless Gaming app, and you can there see Yuri's Revenge as an option in the menu.
Highlight Yuri's Revenge and press the arrow pointing right to move Yuri's Revenge to favorites. Now the borders dissapears in Yuri's Revenge, and it's working as intended. Remember to have the Borderless Gaming app open in the background (or have it minimized to the task tray besides the clock). Or else the game still will have window borders and crash as soon as the mouse cursor moves to the bottom of the screen once a game is started. This also works with vanilla RA2 to some extent, but vanilla RA2 crashes to desktop even following these procedues when the mouse cursor is moved to the bottom of the screen once a game is started. In other words; RA2 is broken, RA2MD (Yuri's Revenge) works in windowed mode using these steps. Are there any solutions in sight when it comes to getting dxwnd's own Modal style aka Borderless Window mode working in RA2? It would be nice to not be dependent of the Borderless Gaming app as a part of the solution to get this game up and running in fullscreen windowed (without borders) with alt+tab / windows key not breaking the game.Update: this is now irrelevant, posted a better and more complete solution on the next page. Is it even a good idea to set ra2 to run in window while using dxwnd?Talking about this:'1, Edit ra2md.lcf with Notepad, take this line 'RUN =.
Game.exe' and replace with this 'RUN =. Game.exe -win' for making the game run in windowed mode.' I think that's also not needed with dxwnd:'2.
Enter properties on the ra2md.exe, and select 16 bit color under compatibility mode.' And of course, that borderless gaming app is not much of use with dxwnd either.Maybe you changed too much already and things are breaking because of your changes, try to get rid of your ra2 installation, do a fresh install and follow gho's advice.
You can do it with just dxwnd, no need to modify game files or use additional apps. How to use corruption of champions mod.
