It is a game, set in the of Calradia, where you begin with, and are then expected to impress a king of your choice and conquer the world for him (or whatever else you feel like, really). You can hire, train them, trade between cities, fight bandits, and even become a vassal to a lord and be granted a village, castle, or town. The combat uses a physics engine that determines the speed of a swing, relative to the target, and gives a percentage bonus (or penalty) to the damage of the attack based on its relative speed. An called Warband came out in April 2010, featuring a significantly improved combat model, a revamped single-player campaign with more in-depth political system, new items and locations, and probably the most called-for feature, multiplayer. Released in late 2009 in Eastern Europe and May 2011 in North America and the rest of Europe was With Fire and Sword, effectively a mod for Warband developed by the Ukrainian group Studio and Russian Snowberry Connection (former Snowberry Connection). It adds early guns, a, improves town-management and gives more options than just ' in sieges as well as a storyline to follow.
On April 19th, 2012 an updated version of the popular mod Mount & Musket was released as official DLC for Warband titled Napoleonic Wars, which takes place, where else, during the. A proper sequel with a full engine overhaul is also in the early stages. The original game features the following tropes:.: It might not be very historically correct to have Vikings fighting Mongolian horse archers, but boy is it fun.: The one you start with, usually.: As far as all the medieval weapons and armour go,. The only would be that of ).

With the usual exception of the bastard sword, which is a misnomer historians applied to hand-and-a-half longswords. Correctly, all western swords with a two-handed hilt are longswords, with the one-handed base form being considered an arming sword or a short sword.: Axes have a bonus against shields and throwing axes are one of the signature weapons of Nord Huscarls.: Trading goods is one way to make money, and Warband allows investing in personal enterprises.: Played straight except for headshots, usually. Though there's still sometimes the amusing sight of one of the tougher units charging on with an arrow sticking out of his eye.
Rarer when full damage is enabled; two arrows are usually lethal unless their target is wearing plate armor.: Averted, the limit is based on skills and renown. It's still strangely specific, but at least it's based on something.: Averted, though with cheaper armor at lower levels you might think this is the case.: The various bandits (particularly the Looters and Mountain Bandits), the deserters. And theoretically -.: Enemy and ally AI is lacking. Riding close by enemies attempting to reach your archers will cause them to either drop their own bows and pull out melee weapons, or turn around and leave their back unshielded, letting your own archers nail them.: The Khergits were a type of bandit until an update turned them into a proper faction.: A common occurence with the faction lords, who after all lead armies as part of their job description. Specific levels of asskickery vary between individuals, but most can outfight their own elite troops.
If you see someone with distinctive armor riding around the battlefield scything down your troops with an actual scythe, it's probably a lord.: Horses are basically treated like any other equippable item, never tire, never panic, and are perfectly willing to run headlong into obstacles like walls or trees at full speed unless steered clear by the player. They can be injured in battle, though, and have a chance of becoming lame or dying when they run out of.
They also have their own AI while not being ridden and will bolt off if hit.: Any force composed of top-level units. They will make hay out of a lord's army.: Obviously, the two-handed swords, but a few weapons used to be way oversized. Straddling the line between this and, the is a scytherblade facing upawards.: The benefits of having a high honor are dubious at best.
You have to turn down often needed rewards for quests, release valuable prisoners, skip lucrative quests, refrain from beating down on the peasantry, and make enemies of the 'dishonorable' nobles across the realm. All to make friends with some 'honorable' ones. And prior to Warband, it didn't even properly do that. Honour does have one benefit, namely becoming marshal.
If your honour is high enough, a lot of lords will like you enough to vote for you to become marshal without you having had to bother doing a million quests for them, saving you time that can be used to make the money you're missing out on from dishonourable acts by battling, which also trains your men and keeps morale high. The dishonourable lords never go below -3 relation with you no matter how high your honour is either, you need to do other things to make anyone hate you more than that.: Partially averted, partially played straight.

It's easy and profitable to do 'dishonorable' missions, such as assassinations, kidnappings, and starting wars, with little consequences aside from ticking off the victims.
You speak of bullshit A group of tightly packed Rhodok spearmen can destroy any and all cavalry just if you tell them to stand close then when the knights charge in only a few casualties will affect your spearmen and the knights will be trapped in a sea of spears. Their charge attacks will be useless as they will have no room to gain momentum to utilise their charge ability and their horse will soon be killed by spear/sword wounds. The knights are more powerful than any rhodok troop on a one on one but I know of NO units that can withstand being surrounded by enemies for more than a few seconds.
Also, you can have some rhodok crossbowmen on a hill close by to shoot the swadian knights as they approach and to support your infantry while they fight the knights when they're dismounted/mounted. As someone who only uses heavy cavalry in field battles I'd have to argue that a force of Swadian Knights will always beat an equal sized force of anything else if you're competent. My 300 heavy cavalry have taken out armies of 3500+ men in battles that I've had. (Usually Rhodoks cause screw those guys). To speak about a full Rhodok army though, any army is good if you can use it right but I have a cavalry bias.
An entirely Rhodok army is certainly viable. Sharpshooters are one of the best ranged units in the game (tied with Vaegir archers but I prefer the Sharpshooters) and the Rhodok Sergeants have kinda crappy one-handed skill compared to other top tier heavy infantry and are better defending castles IMO but they are certainly not BAD on the field. Well that's if you're commanding the Infantry and the stupid-ass AI is controlling the cavalry.I'd never just run my knights into a shield wall, you flank and screen and come from behind, even if it's not a full charge just sauntering your knights into massed archers will be devastating. That's one thing I'm really hopeful for in Bannerlord, better tactics and group commands. Like being able separate your massed cavalry into groups of 20-30 and give them all individual orders like Total War. Or something like that.Although I can't deny that spear-men are still the best for dealing with cavalry. Warband AI for cavalry is simply bad.
And if you have no cavalry but quality archers and infantry you can use the terrain (including the invisible battlefield wall if its the only option) and tight formations to assure they get one charge before their horse advantage is neutralized.Heavy cavalry is super powerful though. A big problem with warband is how you have a troop number limit that is by far the most limiting factor in mid-late game affecting your ability to win battles. Since heavy cavalry counts the same number of men as infantry, you're always going to be playing with less if you don't have cavalry because cavalry packs more punch per man.And it comes with the huge advantage in single player of allowing you to choose your battles due to superior map speed. I'm also dying for some more tactical options. Even with Floris, there's a limit to what you can reasonably expect to get out of a battle, tactically speaking, without jumping through a ton of hoops. Most of the time against the AI it's limited to hammer - anvil or a moving defense. Maybe screening skirmishers and light cavalry on the flanks during an advance. All that being said, it's pretty much accurate for what most combat would have been like.

Much of the time, battles of this scale were less about grand tactics and more about using what worked. And we do have quite a bit of range of things to do tactically speaking once we get used to the command and control UI of Mount n Blade.Still, what I would give to be able to give my archers priority targeting, set cavalry on anti cavalry mode to automatically screen my forces, send heavy infantry on a lord hunting mission, etc. I actually played with an all Rhodok army on normal damage and it is quite viable if you use correct tactics. A Rhodok shield wall can absorb a reasonable cavalry charge but remember they have to survive long enough to fend off the incoming infantry. That's why I would line my crossbowmen behind the infantry. If you were on a hill, your marksmen would take a considerable chunk out of the charging enemy before they even got to your shield wall. If the terrain were flat, your crossbowmen could still deal considerable damage to mounted units stuck in your shield wall.
That being said, I don't suggest you pick fights with armies with, say, 40+ Mameluks or Swadian Knights. I'd also avoid the Khergits. The Rhodoks are fantastic and challenging faction to play with. If you are competent an army of rhodoks can decimate swadian cavalry. You need to be in Rhodok homeland though, as it is hilly and great for anti cavalry. Position your spearmen on top of the closest tall hill, standing slightly on the slope rather than on the peak.
If you have archers, post them behind them. Then, select all troops and tell them to get closer together about 10-20 times until your troops aew packed in a tight cluster. The enemy knights will be slowed down by the hill, and any remaining charge will be hit by a wall of spears and be stopped in its' tracks. If you are in flat land, you can try the same strategy using trees to slow their charge. If the land is completely bare, you can risk yourself and ride out to try and divert the enemy charge away from your troops. If you even get a few cavalry following you and not your army you can weaken the charge.I think on this sub knights are overhyped. They are amazing when you can command and competently manage them, but in AI armies they aren't going to overpower you automatically every time, as they will just blindly charge every time.I would reccomend grabbing some cavalry, maybe sarranid or khergit, to act as a skirmish force. You can distract the enemy while your sharpshooters pick them off using some fast light cavalry. Also, Rhodok can rival a nordic army as well.
They may not have huscarls, but they more than make up for it with their better archers. Sarranids and vaegirs will fall before your sergeants like butter, and Khergit are a bit of a challenge with their horse achers but a few light cavalry can be used to chase them down.

A pretty good faction not to hard to beat. Dont bother recruiting these troops unless they are available as prisoners.
They make for good castle/town defenders. This factions speciality is Spearman and crossbows. Which can lead to your death in battles very quickly if you lead a direct charge, so try and attack from all angles. This faction can be found South-west of the map and are coloured green. If you do want to recruit some Rhodoks to your army, you can recruit from these villages:Rhodok Villages for recruitment. By far the most annoying faction in the game to battle against. These battles will last about twice as long as battles against any other faction. This factions speciality is horse-archers and they can be pretty deadly too. They constantly try to avoid and have pretty good accuracy. Watch out!Not only the horse-archers but also they have lancers.
These guys can 1 hit K0 you or your troops if they're lucky. This faction can be found to the east on the map and are coloured purple. If you want to recruit the Khergit to your army, you can from these villages:Khergit Villages for recruitment.
